So, are you September ready?
What is it about September? Twenty years on, and I can’t seem to shake the back to school mentality from my youth, when thenew school year starts.
Back to school always meant a new school uniform, a shiny pair of shoes, maybe a haircut, hopefully, a new bag, a new pencil case and of course some stationery! I’m a sucker for stationery, new notepads, school diary, pens, rubbers, pencils – you name it I wanted it and I’d relish in the choosing of every bit…Paperchase was the place to go!
The new term
A new term felt like a new start. With my new look, new accessories and most importantly new stationery – all of these new things meant, of course, that and I was going to ‘renew’ myself and suddenly do amazingly brilliant things in all of my subjects! ::0))
So here we are again, September is here, X-factor and Strictly are back on the telly and the kids are back to school for their new term…and so ours begins too.
More often than not, whenever I get a new job it seems to be September time and bizarrely this has happened for the last 20 years or so. So of course, a new job means new outfit, a haircut, perhaps a new bag, shoes etc…and if I’m lucky a little holiday in between finishing the old job and starting the new one.
That’s the ideal plan.
Of course, that doesn’t happen all the time so when there isn’t a new job and September comes round, it still seems to have a psychological impact. It’s time for a refresh, a review of things, tidying up all the loose ends ready for the onslaught of the new ‘term’ – a refocus.
It’s like a psychological ’Autumnal’ clean
It can be a new beginning, if you have habits you want to change, or alter, at work and at home – it’s a good time to do it. Why wait for January? You might want to do a course in something to boost your skills portfolio, you might even want to consider if the role you’re in is still the right role for you.
It’s a great time to be looking for a new role – salaries are on the increase for the right candidate – check out our latest Job Market report summary.
With a new term, the weather changes, warm Summer air turns to a cooler, crisper Autumnal air and of course, it’s an excuse to think about updating your wardrobe for the new season. So, grab the bumper fashion editions of the glossy magazines and do some fun homework on how you can shop on a budget – whatever that might be! I am still a sucker for the stationery, ‘without the Stationery village‘….from the Mighty Boosh. :0)
Then, of course, there’s the whole question of the new season beauty looks….sorry guys you might have to skip this one…
