Interview Tips!

Job interview tips

When you’ve applied for dozens of jobs, actually landing an interview can seem like a major accomplishment. And it is.

But don’t just be happy to get an interview – work hard to make sure you nail the interview.

Here are our top Interview Tips to ensure you shine:

Attire: it is always hard to find the right thing to wear for an interview, stick to business casual at a minimum. You want to put your best foot forward. Try on your outfit beforehand. You don’t want to wake up the morning of the interview and realise that your outfit doesn’t fit anymore. Less is always more – Don’t wear too much make up, jewellery or aftershave. You want to be remembered for what you can bring to the job – not for your appearance or smell.

Research: It is very important that you do your research before the interview. Look at their website and google the company. This will give you general information that will help you with the ‘What do you know about our company?’ question. Know who you’re going to be interviewed by and their role in the company.

Arrive on Time: Map out your route and see how long it takes to get there. Allow for traffic and road works. Try to be there 10mins before your interview so you can relax and relieve any anxiety you may have before the interview begins.

Smile: A smile says it all – warm, friendly and confident. A smile always shows that you’re enthusiastic.

Body language: Your body language can sometimes matter more than what you’re saying.  A good handshake and sit up straight in your chair this portrays confidence. Do not cross your arms this may give the interviewer the impression that you have your guard up and are uninterested in the vacancy.

Ask Questions:  Have some prepared questions but make sure they have not been answered throughout the interview and that your questions are relevant. Here are a few examples:

  • Is there anything we haven’t covered that you think is important to know about working here?
  • Is there anything else I can provide to help you make your decision?
  • How do you help your team grow professionally?

Thank you note: Send an email to your interviewer. Thank them for meeting with you and their time.  If you went through an agency, send an email to your recruiter and they will pass it on.

Best of Luck!
