Dorset’s Unemployed More Likely to go Straight Back to Work than Anywhere Else in Britain
People in Dorset who lose their jobs are more likely to be able to walk straight into another role than people anywhere else in the country, it is claimed.
The South West has the lowest unemployment rate of any UK region – with 50,000 fewer unemployed than last year. The number of people on Jobseeker’s Allowance also reflects this with 5392 people claiming last month, down from 3032 in January 2014. The South West has the smallest total long term Jobseeker’s Allowance count of all UK regions.
This number even accounts for those being laid off from Sunseeker just before Christmas – this is due to the skill set of the employee’s making them very employable to other companies and due to the location, other professional boat builders were extremely interested in employing them meaning that individuals were not unemployed for long.
Even the demise of courier company City Link failed to dent the figures – this is due to the rise in demand for Parcelforce services and demand from the road haulage industry around Southampton.
Many new jobs have been created in the Dorset area for 2015 due to companies expanding. Kinson saw a new Tesco store being opened which has helped boost employment, along with a package of infrastructure improvements due around Bournemouth Airport and the development of a Hilton Hotel in Bournemouth. There has also been a 212% rise in the number of digital start up companies in Bournemouth and Poole between 2010 and 2013 which has created new jobs.
It is very clear that the whole of the UK is in recovery from the recession, with the number of people claiming Jobseeker’s Allowance in the country down to 823,000 – the 27th monthly fall. This recovery is being seen across all sectors and is continuing to build. Confidence is continuing to build across the country with the Prime Minister stating that the country deserves a pay rise – the boldest statement made in a while!
