Shop Local! Southbourne & Christchurch Edition
We’ve just seen Laura behind door number three on the advent calendar encouraging you all to shop local. So, we thought we’d bring you a blog of some places where you can support local businesses and do a spot of Christmas shopping in independent shops in Southbourne and Christchurch. Now obviously we can’t name them all, but here are a few of our tried and tested faves!

If you’ve been to Christchurch, it’s highly likely that you’ve seen Bookkends on the highstreet. They have an amazing range of gifts, art works, toys, jewellery, art supplies, books, puzzles, toys and much more, so go in and have a browse! Click the pictures below to see them in more detail. As the name suggests, it’s not just gin they do. The shop has a wonderful range of yummy treatsAlso, check out their LinkedIn page, Sally Barwick is always posting the latest updates on products and news. They also do virtual tasting evenings!

An adorable shop just off Christchurch Highstreet, they stock all kinds of things such as organic skincare and soaps, jewellery, garden products, bags and accessories. These guys don’t just offer a big selection of yummy things to eat and drink when you need something to warm you though, they also do gifts and cards. They have beautiful hand-made cards, lunchboxes, signs, pebbles, purses and pencil cases. All pets are welcome! Warning, the below images might make you hungry…

As major tea drinkers in this office, we love a good loose tea brew! Read all about the Exotic Tea Pot, and as they say on their website, go in store to experience a huge variety of tea, where they are keeping the quality sky-high but the price affordable. They also have gorgeous handmade packaging, caring customer service, generous knowledge & fast delivery.

Okay, so not exactly what you would classify as a traditional Christmas shopping place, but we thought we’d mention Two Rivers Refill. A great place to reduce your consumption, and as the name suggest, refill on your favourites. Their products include nuts, cereals, chocolate raisins, yogurt raisins, sesame sticks, trail mix, locally roasted coffee, dried fruit, pumpkins seeds, cacao powder, vegan flap jacks, vegan shortbread, double chocolate brownies and local honey, as well as a variety of liquid refills & household products.

Sugar Mango are based on Southbourne Grove and offer a range of jewellery, clothing, gifts, and they also stock a range of brands. They also have a great blog with advice on ‘Gifts for Eco-Warriors’, ‘What to buy the woman who has everything’, ‘Gemstone Meanings and Semi-Precious Stone Jewellery’.

The clue is in the name – An independently owned bookshop and lifestyle store in Southbourne, they sell new books and gifts, homewares, cards, games, jigsaws and more. You can also order in items if they’re not in store and they’ll be delivered to you in a few days.

One of many great independent shops in Southbourne, this local business offers a huge range of toys, ‘pocket money marvels’, homeware & gifts galore. They even offer ‘Green Toys’, 100% recycled (including the packaging), no BPA /PVC, hardwearing and dishwasher safe. How great is that!

Based on the Southbourne Grove, Tillys Gifts have over 1000 items in stock. They stock Bomb Cosmetics products, handmade items, clocks, Christmas decorations, and their ‘famous Yankee Candle Department.’ I’m excited to visit them and see what new things they have in store!

Okay, so she’s not quite in Christchurch or Southbourne, but she is an independent business based in Dorset and her flower arrangements are stunning! So we just had to give her a mention. Stephanie is currently offering Christmas wreaths and arrangements but also does weddings, and events (when permitted!). But she’s not just talented in the flower department, she is also making cakes to order and we are loving the decorations and creative ideas here.
