Dare I say the words Autumn, Winter…and wardrobe!
Looking around the office today I had to think is it still August? as I can’t see much of Summer going on in our outfits today!
I know we can’t give up on Summer just yet but the weather hasn’t been too great recently, and September is less than 2 weeks away! So looking at the positives, this lack of sunshine does get us in the mood for thinking about updating the wardrobe. Yaay! :0) We love an excuse to go shopping!
So, are you ready to start thinking about what to wear this season? We thought we’d summarise the key trends for the season, so here are some quick tips to get your working wardrobe ready!
The key trends identified by the catwalks for Autumn Winter 2017, that we can attempt to work into our office wear are:
Suiting
It’s great news for us office folk, as suits go mainstream this season. With a huge of array of choice this season in the suiting department – you can go a bit more feminine if you wish, or embrace the country check look for a more casual twist on the smart suit look…
Top style tips from Vogue:
“Ensure the jacket sits long and free – to obtain the elongating effect.
Trousers should not be tight and be in a weighty fabric that moves with your stride.
Cropped trousers are your safest option; if the trouser is too long you need to get your heel height spot on” (vogue.com)
Blouses – go folky
A nice way to update your wardrobe – ‘with exaggerated sleeves and lace-up detailing’, you can easily incorporate a bit of the floral trend here too.
Dresses
The forties and fifties influence; as well as floral are key trends this season– but not necessarily together! Maxi and asymmetrical feature too; but for the office – something more adaptable may be best. Go for the forties look which is both elegant and timeless.
Colour
Bright blocks are a key trend –cobalt, ochre, deep purple and turquoise are big; as well as the usual plums, aubergines, tobacco and racing green that seem to pop up each season. And the way to wear them is
Sparkle
It might not be everyone’s favourite but I love a hint of sparkle -the key here is to be subtle and make sure we don’t overdo it – and transform ourselves into far too early festive features :0). Choose an accessory – such as this brooch which I personally like ! or choose a shirt with a sparkly collar, or a pair of glittery heels.
I could go on :0)
The must-have accessory for your Autumn Winter Wardrobe
The quick fix item to update your work wardrobe for the new season is the top handle handbag, inspired by the 1940s / and 1950s eras….
Earrings go big
Another quick win and the budget option – do a Pat Butcher and big up your earlobes with some serious adornments.
