Healthy Mind – Featuring Pavilion Dance South West
We see it in the news, on social media, in the workplace, everyone is becoming increasingly aware of mental health and having a ‘healthy mind’, especially within the workplace.
One of the things I find that can boost my mood and create a ‘healthy mind’ after a good, bad, stressful or normal day at work, like anyone, is some form of exercise. And as we all know that’s due to the boost of ‘feel good’ hormones being produced when we do exercise.
But the hardest thing for me? Motivation. Who wants to go out in the cold, dark and rainy evenings on an evening run, or to the gym, when you could be huddled up on the sofa watching your favourite Netflix series? Certainly not me.
So I decided to find something that I’d enjoy more than pounding the pavements with my feet. Something to really get me excited to leave the warmth of my house and do some exercise. And that’s when a close friend suggested Pavilion Dance South West (PDSW).
Dancing around in your own house ‘like no one is watching’ because they probably aren’t is all well and good. But ‘go to a dance class you say? No way, that’s terrifying!’. We’ll here I am to tell you that actually, it’s really not.
You don’t have to have experience or natural ability to take part. With classes for all levels, age ranges and genres, PDSW provides an excellent variety for anyone to choose from. This includes under 5s, 5 – 16 year olds, adult, over 50s. They also have classes for people with Parkinson’s and Dementia. Ballet, African, Hip Hop, Burlesque, Tap, Ballroom, Latin, Yoga, you name it, they do it.
Ever growing their list of options, PDSW provides something for everyone and it’s a fantastic way to get the feel good hormones going without thinking about how on earth you are going to motivate yourself to go to the gym or out for a run!
So I say, have a try, or at least take a look at their website and find out more. I’d be surprised if you can’t find something you’d be tempted to do. But if you can’t, there’s also plenty of performances to go and watch!
