National Account Manager – FMCG

Location: Hybrid – Christchurch HQ (South of England, commuting distance)
Type: Full-time | Permanent | Reports to National Account Controller

About the Role

We are looking for a proactive and commercially minded National Account Manager to join our fast-paced FMCG business. This role focuses on building and strengthening existing relationships with national retail accounts, while supporting growth opportunities and delivering outstanding customer value.

Working closely with the National Account Controller and wider commercial team, you will manage key accounts, contribute to category strategy, and collaborate cross-functionally to ensure projects are delivered on time, on spec, and in budget.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and grow existing national retail accounts, ensuring strong and lasting customer relationships.
  • Develop and implement customer-specific sales strategies and account plans aligned with business objectives.
  • Collaborate with internal teams (supply chain, marketing, NPD, technical) to deliver customer KPIs.
  • Monitor account performance, providing insights and recommendations to improve category results.
  • Lead account-related projects from planning through to delivery, ensuring milestones and KPIs are achieved.
  • Identify opportunities for innovation and NPD within your customers’ categories.
  • Support the wider sales team and contribute to overall commercial goals.

About You

We are looking for someone who:

  • Has a genuine passion for food and can demonstrate it through market knowledge, industry insight, or professional experience.
  • Thrives on building strong relationships with retail buyers and stakeholders.
  • Has experience within FMCG/food/retail, ideally with top 6 UK grocers.
  • Can balance commercial thinking with collaborative, cross-functional working.
  • Organised, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple accounts and projects at once.

Skills & Experience Required

Essential:

  • Minimum 2 years’ experience managing national retail accounts.
  • FMCG account management experience (foods preferred, private label highly desirable).
  • Strong commercial acumen and ability to deliver sales and margin targets.
  • Experience working cross-functionally across supply chain, NPD, and marketing.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Teams, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Desirable:

  • Experience working with top 6 UK grocers.
  • Knowledge of food product categories and category management.
  • Project management experience (Critical Path, resource planning, risk assessment).
