Location: Anywhere in the UK – mainly on the road visiting key retailer accounts, with occasional travel to Christchurch HQ, Dorset

About the Role

We are seeking a commercially driven National Account Controller (Foods) to lead relationships with top 6 UK grocery retailers and drive growth across private label and branded product ranges. This is a senior-level role where you’ll have responsibility for shaping customer strategy, managing P&L, and delivering ambitious growth targets.

You’ll play a key part in developing new business opportunities, while also leading a small team to maximise account performance. Working cross-functionally across marketing, supply chain, and NPD, you’ll ensure innovation is brought to market successfully and projects are delivered on time, on spec, and in budget.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and grow accounts with top 6 UK grocers, securing new business and expanding existing relationships.
  • Develop and execute customer-specific sales plans and strategies aligned with commercial goals.
  • Lead P&L management for key accounts, achieving volume, margin, and profitability targets.
  • Build strong relationships with buyers, stakeholders, and internal teams.
  • Drive innovation and NPD through market research and category insight.
  • Lead cross-functional projects to ensure smooth delivery of customer initiatives.
  • Monitor customer KPIs, identifying opportunities for improvement.
  • Line manage and develop a small commercial team.
  • Contribute to wider company growth by supporting commercial strategy.

About You

We’re looking for someone who:

  • Has a genuine passion for food and can demonstrate it through knowledge of trends, products, and categories.
  • Brings at least 3 years’ experience supplying foods to top 6 UK grocers.
  • Has proven FMCG account management expertise (private label essential, branded food an advantage).
  • Confident managing budgets, KPIs, and P&L.
  • Enjoys working cross-functionally and leading projects.
  • An excellent communicator and negotiator, able to influence at all levels.
  • Brings leadership qualities, with prior team management experience desirable.

Skills & Experience Required

Essential:

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience supplying foods to top 6 UK grocers.
  • Strong commercial acumen with P&L ownership.
  • Private label FMCG account management experience.
  • Experience in food categories and market knowledge.
  • Project leadership skills (critical path, resource planning, risk management).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Teams, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Desirable:

  • Experience supplying branded foods into UK grocers.
  • Previous people management experience.
